It’s been a while. As I’m sure I’ve said before, when I started this blog I didn’t have a very heavy workload. And now I have work. But for the next week (?) I have less so I’ll be trying to catch up on the last few months. Many things have happened.
Let me begin with some pictures from South Luangwa, a national park about 9 hours’ drive north of Lusaka. It was amazing getting to go on safari, and if you’re in Zambia I would definitely recommend South Luangwa. I’m probably not going to go on too many safaris while here (even the budget options are a bit expensive) so I won’t be able to give a definitive comparison, but everyone who has been on many safaris says it’s one of the best.
First, a word of warning. On the way to the park, we ended up taking a 6 hour detour through some dirt roads like the one above. Why? Because Google Maps thought the quickest way to the park was through the park, along hundreds of miles of dirt roads. To those going there: drive through Chipata! Do not trust Google Maps! The road to Chipata is the nicest in Zambia. It is not dirt and you will not get eaten by a goat. Like these little road goats. Aren’t they cute?
The scenery was lovely and we ended up driving in the middle of a Good Friday procession, one of the more surreal experiences of my life. So not all was lost.
We stayed in a lodge which had great bread. Sometimes life disappoints you, but bread never does.
We went on four game drives over two days, and saw lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, wild dogs, zebras, antelope, and lots of birds. One of my friends definitely has better pictures than this; I might try to track them down.
